How does a radioactive environment like space affect an astronaut’s body?

That’s what our host Larkin Mosscrop is exploring this month with three scientists from Canadian Nuclear Laboratories’ radiobiology and health branch. Dr. Holly Laakso, Dr. Soji Sebastian and Dr. Richard Richardson talk about their research investigating how space radiation impacts an astronaut’s microbiome, heart and eyes – which are not only essential organs for successful space missions, but also for when they return to Earth! Listen in and you’ll learn about how the eye lens is a lot like an onion, how space radiation can age the heart by up to two decades and how maybe yogurt actually is the solution to all of our problems.
