CNL Security Services Respond to Suspicious Package

The following information bulletin is in accordance with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories’ (CNL) ongoing commitment to voluntary public disclosure of events related to the Chalk River Laboratories (CRL).

Chalk River, ON – 2020 November 17– Earlier today, a suspicious package was received at CNL’s Chalk River Logistics Facility, it was isolated for further inspection.

CNL Security Services responded rapidly, following all required safety procedures that included removing all staff from the building and limiting access to the Chalk River Site.

As part of the procedural response, CNL Security Services requested support from local police authorities. Police were able to successfully trace the package and there were no security or safety concerns. Normal operations were resumed at approximately 12:00 p.m.

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission was promptly notified of the event.

CNL confirms that there is no threat to workers, the public, the environment or nuclear safety related to this event.
