Successful re-certification of CNL to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015

Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) was first registered to the ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) in November of 2003, at the Chalk River Laboratories (CRL) and Port Hope Area Initiative (Historic Waste Program) respectively, and to ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) at CRL in May 2004 and WL in 2010.

While AECL owns the sites and the nuclear liabilities, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories is responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the facilities.  CNL operates under a GoCo model, meaning government-owned, contractor-operated.

Over time, the CNL Management System has evolved and transitioned to align with the 2015 versions of the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 Standards in 2018.  CNL has recently gone through our first three year cycle of audits under the 2015 Standards, and successfully completed re-certification audits in 2021 January (ISO 9001) and 2021 April/May (ISO 14001).

Management System, Quality Assurance and Environmental Protection are happy to announce the successful re-certification of CNL to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015.

Thank you to everyone for helping to achieve these milestones.
