Chalk River, ON – June 25, 2025 – Janet Tosh, Vice-President of Human Resources at CNL, issued the following statement today concerning labour relations negotiations with the Chalk River Professionals Employee Group (CRPEG) – represented by the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) – at the Chalk River Laboratories campus:
“Over the past several months, CNL has participated in ongoing negotiations with representatives of PIPSC-CRPEG towards a renewed collective agreement. CNL has successfully ratified very similar agreements, with increases to wages, and other provisions, with eight other bargaining units in the last three months. Unfortunately, PIPSC-CRPEG has rejected CNL’s most recent offer, and has initiated strike action at the Chalk River campus. The CNL offer includes market-competitive increases to wages and health and wellness benefits.
In recent days, PIPSC-CRPEG membership have been exercising their right to picket at the entrance to the Chalk River Laboratories site. Delays are being reported on Highway 17 particularly during the morning hours and CNL is supporting the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to help manage any resulting safety issues. While this disruption to the site is unfortunate for our operations and the local community, CNL respects the negotiation process and PIPSC-CRPEG’s right to strike.
In preparing for all outcomes, CNL has conducted the necessary contingency planning for a strike over the last several months and has arrangements in place to ensure the safety and security of the Chalk River Laboratories campus. Looking forward, CNL remains committed to a fair and balanced agreement that is reflective of the current labour market and economic environment, and which demonstrates responsible financial stewardship on behalf of the Government of Canada and the Canadian taxpayer.”
