Electrical cable severed during construction site clean-up at the Chalk River Laboratories

The following information bulletin is in accordance with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories’ (CNL) ongoing commitment to voluntary public disclosure of events related to the Chalk River Laboratories.

On Wednesday, June 13, 2018, CNL was notified that an energized 600 volt cable had been cut by a contractor conducting site cleanup activities at a location outside the main campus. On notification of this event, CNL suspended further work by the contractor until an investigation has been completed, and has directed that all related CNL work activities be reviewed.

There were no injuries as a result of this incident.  CNL has conducted a companywide safety pause to review the event.  Further safety actions will follow.

The event has been reported to the CNSC.

CNL confirms that there is no threat to workers, the public, the environment or nuclear safety related to this event.
