That’s what we’re exploring this episode with the help of Canadian Nuclear Laboratories’ new head of radiobiology Dr. Marcelo Vazquez, who will be leading a project this spring to grow mini versions of one of the most complex organs in our bodies. Listen in, and you’ll learn how our scientists make simplified organs in petri dishes, why they provide more realistic data on how radiation affects humans, and how they could be the key to understanding why some astronauts see “fireworks explosions” when they close their eyes to sleep.
