CNL employees raise over $100,000 for Renfrew County United Way

Canada’s national nuclear laboratory once again recognized as largest fundraiser for annual campaign in support of Ottawa Valley social programs

Chalk River, January 16, 2018 – Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), Canada’s premier nuclear science and technology organization, announced today that its employees have raised over $100,000 as part of the Renfrew County United Way’s (RCUW) annual fundraising campaign. CNL employees participate in the program every fall through a series of fundraising activities at the Chalk River Laboratories.

“Year after year our staff continue to show up, demonstrating their compassion and that they understand just how valuable their donations are to the communities we all call home,” commented Mark Lesinski, CNL President and Chief Executive Officer. “Being the county’s largest workplace contributor is a title CNL is extremely proud of, but our compassion doesn’t stop in the Ottawa Valley. I’m pleased to say that our colleagues at CNL’s Whiteshell and Port Hope sites have raised outstanding amounts for their respective United Way branches as well.”

CNL employees have been participating in fundraising activities for the United Way since the early 1960s, with annual campaigns held at the company’s Chalk River and Port Hope locations in Ontario, and at the Pinawa site in Manitoba. Collectively, employees at these three locations raised over $133,000 this year, a tremendous achievement that speaks to the important role the United Way plays in supporting the less fortunate across Canada.

“I am a firm believer in the impact that the United Way has in the local community, which is why I’m so proud of my colleagues at CNL,” added Doug Tennant, 2017 Chair of the RCUW Board. “Every year our staff throw themselves into this campaign to support the local community and to help those in need, and this year was no different. Thanks to everyone who helped make this year’s fundraiser such a success. You are making a difference.”

In addition to cash and ongoing payroll donations, CNL staff participated in various fundraising activities during the annual one-week campaign at the Chalk River Laboratories. The ever popular “Pet Photo Contest” returned bigger and better than ever, and a number of brave CNL employees took the stage in front of hundreds of their colleagues for the “Karaoke in the Cafeteria” event.
