For many decades, Canada has been undertaking research on the effects of tritium in the environment to inform the policy and regulations that prioritize Canadians’ health. To support better understanding of this radioactive isotope of hydrogen – its presence, behaviour and effects in the Canadian environment, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), with the support of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), Health Canada (HC) and Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL), are pleased to host a two-day event dedicated to presentation and discussion on the latest research on environmental distribution of tritium in Canada and studies focused on understanding its impact on human health.
The first day of the event, Thursday, May 8, will be dedicated to hearing from researchers and invited presenters. Guests will be able to join in person at the Algonquin College campus in Ottawa or virtually. Day two of the event will be hosted at CNL’s Chalk River campus and will include a tour of the facilities that support research on tritium in the environment.
