Dear CNL Supplier,
CNL would like to inform you of the update regarding the future management and operation of Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL).
Earlier this year, Nuclear Laboratory Partners of Canada Inc. (NLPC) was announced as the Preferred Bidder for the contract to manage CNL. NLPC is a partnership consisting of three joint venture partners: BWXT Government Group, Inc., Amentum Environment & Energy, Inc., and Kinectrics Inc., with Battelle Memorial Institute serving as subcontractor.
Completion of this transaction was scheduled for September 13, 2025, but was delayed due to regulatory reviews by the Competition Bureau. Last week, the Bureau notified Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) that it does not intend to challenge the proposed transaction. The process will be completed, and transition to NLPC leadership will take effect on December 11, 2025.
CNL missions and mandate remain unchanged. CNL continues to operate AECL sites and assets, delivering on three missions: science and technology, environmental remediation, and revitalization of Chalk River Laboratories.
The Government-Owned, Contractor-Operated (GoCo) model ensures continuity and stability. Existing contracts with CNL remain unaffected by this transition. Changes will occur at the executive level; working-level teams at CNL remain unchanged.
The transition to NLPC leadership will proceed while priorities and work across all sites continue without interruption.
CNL values ongoing partnerships and remains committed to supporting small, medium, local, and Indigenous businesses wherever possible. For questions regarding this transition or ongoing work with CNL, contact the assigned CNL contract representative or email supplierrelationships@cnl.ca.
