CNL provides information on a spill of Automatic Transmission Fluid

The following information bulletin is in accordance with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories’ (CNL) ongoing commitment to voluntary public disclosure of events related to the Chalk River Laboratories.

(2020 July 29) CNL reports a spill of approximately 15 litres of Automatic Transmission Fluid at the Chalk River site from a CNL owned vehicle.  The spill was discovered during operation of the vehicle on the Chalk River premises, Monday, July 27.  Clean up operations were initiated immediately and are complete, approximately four cubic metres of soil was removed from a CNL gravel road and the shoulder of Plant Road, and four bags of used sorbent pads were also collected as part of the cleanup.  Repairs to the equipment are underway.

CNL reported this release and mitigating steps to the Spills Action Hotline and notified the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.

CNL confirms that there is no threat to workers, the public, the environment or nuclear safety related to this event.
