Chalk River Laboratories Mid-Term Update

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) will hold a public meeting with CNL as part of the mid-term update, regarding the company’s 10-year Nuclear Research and Test Establishment Operating Licence. The meeting is scheduled for November 1, 2023 in the National Capital region.

CNL welcomes members of the public to participate, and the public meeting will be webcast live and available on the CNSC web site at nuclearsafety.gc.ca .

In 2018, the CNL received a 10-year operating licence for the Chalk River Laboratories in Chalk River, Ontario. The current licence authorizes CNL to conduct a range of licenced activities on the Chalk River Laboratories campus, including nuclear scientific research and the operation of several licenced facilities.

The mid-term update meeting will provide the CNSC an opportunity to hear comments from CNL, members of the public, and Indigenous communities regarding progress from the first half of this licence period, and a look ahead to the next five years. Concurrent with the Mid-Term Update, CNSC staff will present their annual Regulatory Oversight Report for Canadian Nuclear Laboratories Sites: 2022 (CNL ROR) which will address performance at all CNL operating locations.
