We have received several questions in recent days regarding the sewage treatment facility effluent at the Chalk River Laboratories. We would like to provide you with the latest information on our response to the situation.

To begin, the discharge from the sewage treatment facility does not pose a threat to the environment or the public.

CNL can also confirm that this non-compliance is not related to radiological contaminants. The current focus of the investigation is on detergents or cleaning solutions used within the laboratories.

The performance of the facility has been improving, and over the last two weeks this has been supported with positive test results. We will need another month of positive test results in order to declare that the sewage facility has returned to consistent normal operation.

We appreciate that our previous disclosure, and the ensuing media coverage, may have caused public concern. This was not our intention and we apologise for any concern it may have caused.

Again, the discharge from the sewage treatment facility does not pose a threat to the environment or the public.

What's even more troubling, the Algonquin leader added, is the perception of secrecy. CNL learned of the problem in February but didn't inform the public of "non-compliance in sewage effluent" until late March. Environment Canada also didn't notify the public until contacted with questions prompted by an anonymous tip.

disclosure now that you have been busted but nothing all this time right?? you dont think your neighbours or others would want to know?? nice transparency on this one guys!!!!

You know those pesky first Nations found out about it and well you know I am surprised they are upset with all that meaningful consultation you have been doing...

you lie through your teeth. You didnt disclose anything and wasnt it nice of Environment Canada to cover this up for you as well. You cannot be trusted and your surface laid dump beside the Ottawa river will be a disaster as well. You continue to dump Tritium and god knows what else into the river.. without any kind of scrutiny or transparency. This latest fiasco shows you cannot be trusted whatsoever. This whole surface dump process was a whitewash as we knew it would be. many many people and groups oppose this as does the majority of First Nations yet rubber stamped nothing to see here folks.

Exciting news! We are preparing for our 119th demolition at CRL. Our decommissioning team is removing hazards and isolating electrical and mechanical services in a two-story wood-framed building that was once used as office space and a change room for CNL employees who performed radiological work. Spent five years in that building. Good memories, but definitely a very old building.

I used to work in that building - met my future Mrs there.

227 was the building number

Great work by a great team. Impressive how things can go back to green space.

What was the bldg. number

The old RIS building.

Your tax dollars at work.

Rite on 🤘🔥
