July 14 – 16, 2026
Fairmont Chateau Laurier, Ottawa, ON

Dear Colleagues,
The 8th International Workshop on Material Properties of TRISO Fuels brings together leading experts from academia, industry, and other interested stakeholders involved in supporting the development and deployment of advanced reactor technologies fueled by tri-structural isotropic (TRISO) coated particles. It provides a forum to discuss critical topics related to the TRISO fuel applications and to gain an international perspective on current research.
This workshop is held under the framework of the Generation IV International Forum (GIF) Very High Temperature Reactor (VHTR) system Fuel and Fuel Cycle Project Management Board (FFC-PMB), which includes representatives from Canada, China, Europe, France, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States.
This year’s workshop will adopt a similar format to the last edition, successfully held in Manchester in July 2024. The workshop will consist of multiple sessions focusing on topics facing the TRISO coated particle fuel research community through curated panel discussions and a series of “lightning talks” of five-minute duration. The lightning talks provide an opportunity to communicate your novel research. These five-minute talks are to highlight your research aligned with the planned panel session topics listed below, prompting discussion and possible collaborations. The selection of lightning talks will be based on the review of a max 300-word abstract, to be submitted for consideration by March 15, 2026. In the interest of time, some lightning talk presenters may be asked to convert work to posters displayed in the venue for the duration of this event.
Technical tours of relevant TRISO fuel facilities (and more) at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories in Chalk River are also planned for the final day of the workshop on July 16, 2026, in addition to the technical track. Participation in the tours will be limited, and priority will be given to international presenters and/or panellists.
Please visit this website regularly as information will be updated. Please send any queries to the organizers at TRISO@cnl.ca.
We look forward to welcoming you to Ottawa!
