Resubmission of Final NSDF Environmental Impact Statement to CNSC

Since February 2021, CNL has been revising the Near Surface Disposal Facility (NSDF) Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), as requested by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), to include more content in the NSDF EIS about the NSDF Project’s engagement with Indigenous communities and organizations. The revision of the EIS has been completed and was submitted to the CNSC on May 28, 2021.

The final EIS is now being verified by CNSC staff to confirm that the remaining information request has been addressed. Pending CNSC acceptance of the final EIS, it will be posted in English and French, along with Federal-Provincial Review Team (FPRT) and Public and Indigenous Groups’ comment tables, on the Impact Assessment Agency (IAA) website and CNSC web page. An environmental assessment report under CEAA 2012 will be drafted by CNSC and made available for review by Indigenous communities and organizations and the public prior to a public Commission hearing.

A proposed date for the NSDF hearing will be set by the Commission Secretariat once staff have deemed that the application from CNL has met the regulatory requirements for both the Environmental Assessment and licensing.
