Academic Partnership Program

Cultivating Talent!

Together with our partners, CNL is developing future talent and creating meaningful research programs within Canadian universities, colleges and technical organizations to support our growth as Canada’s national nuclear laboratories and the highly qualified people needed for the workforce of the future. Canada’s decarbonization strategy includes new nuclear deployment and other clean energy infrastructure, and we need to build the talent pipeline to support it.

The Academic Partnership Program (APP) provides structured investment in selected partner institutions with a goal to broaden students post-secondary learning experiences, advance research through collaboration and share expertise and infrastructure for the benefit of CNL, partner institutions and Canada’s research and development priorities.

Students gain hands on experience and important mentorship connection – growing both their nuclear research and development and career-building skills. At CNL’s revitalized Chalk River Laboratories campus, students also gain access to over 100 unique laboratories and an extensive list of experts supporting Canada’s world leading nuclear research program, including:

  • Advanced and Small Modular Reactors
  • Hydrogen and Tritium Technologies
  • Health and Radioisotope Programs
  • Nuclear Safety and Security
  • Reactor Fleet Sustainability
  • Advanced Fuels Research
  • Environmental Remediation
