Follow Up Monitoring

Building on the high-level follow-up monitoring in the EIS, CNL recently developed three detailed follow-up monitoring plans, outlining how the environment will be monitored to verify that the NPD Closure project would have minimal impact on the environment. The three follow-up monitoring plans are:

  • Draft Effluent Follow-Up Monitoring Plan:  This monitoring report outlines monitoring emissions directly from the project to the environment (e.g. dust and vehicle emissions).
  • Draft Groundwater Follow-Up Monitoring Plan: This report describes the monitoring of groundwater flow, direction and quality. Importantly, one of the objectives of this plan is to determine facility performance through groundwater monitoring long after the grouting of the facility is complete
  • Draft Environmental Follow-Up Monitoring Plan: This report outlines how monitoring of environmental components would take place (including the Ottawa River) as well as biodiversity monitoring.

These monitoring plans describe monitoring activities during both the Decommissioning Execution and Institutional Control phases of the NPD Closure Project.

These monitoring plans are titled "Draft" because CNL is seeking feedback on these plans from interested parties including Indigenous groups, the public and stakeholders.

We are willing to meet with interested parties to walk through these draft plans and gather input to help us continue to develop them, incorporating your feedback. We invite you to read these monitoring plans and contact us if you have any questions or if you want to arrange a meeting with us to give us your input on these plans.
