(2015 May 13) The following information bulletin is in accordance with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories’ (CNL) ongoing commitment to voluntary public disclosure of events related to the Chalk River Laboratories.
During the afternoon shift of May 12, the NRU reactor was successfully returned to service following the completion of our fifth annual planned extended outage.
Execution of the annual extended outage requires months of planning, which leads to a demanding schedule of activities that is carried out by a dedicated team of CNL employees from across the organization. Overall, we successfully delivered on our commitments to our regulator and customers while completing the outage on schedule. The outage team completed approximately 1,100 activities safely, with no lost time injuries and no significant radiological issues.
The NRU reactor is currently operating at high power, producing medical isotopes and available to provide vital research and testing support to the science community, universities, and industry from across Canada and around the world.
